Shanghai is not only one of the largest economic centers of the world, it's also a city of stark contrasts. It’s a move into a brand-new product category – and one that’s been carefully planned. “It was an exciting challenge for us to play around with an entirely different material and finessing all the new production processes. Our loyal TASSEN fans at this point pretty much have their shelves fully stacked with our porcelain goods – so it was time to serve them something new,” smiles Chris Endres, Head of Distribution, Germany.

If someone told you about a German being interviewed on the streets of Tokyo by a Japanese TV-station about the German Football Cup victory of sports club Eintracht Frankfurt – you would say they’re probably joking. Or they had too much sake… But that’s exactly what happened to FIFTYEIGHT CEO Marc on a visit to Japan in late May 2018. The reason for this specific media interest: A few days before, the captain of the Japanese soccer team, Makoto Hasebe, made a key contribution in finally winning Frankfurt the coveted title for the first time in over 30 years.

Love has a way of rocking your world and throwing everything out of whack. That’s exactly what our laid-back flower vase is experiencing in the latest animated film from TASSEN. Usually it’s the vase’s job to serve other people’s flower greetings. But now the vase decides to get its own love life in order. If only that were so simple…

In June 2018, Edina and Marc had their first encounter with the land of Vikings and economic affluence. The Key Account Manager and the CEO of FIFTYEIGHT wanted to pay a visit to our new distributor team, consisting of our long-time distro partner Christopher Roren from Oslo and entrepreneur André Vevle with his state-of-the-art warehouse in Skogn near Trondheim. But what was initially planned as a business trip, “soon turned out to be a meeting among friends,” said Marc. Edina agrees: “The two are much like all the other Norwegians we had a chance to meet – incredibly cordial and relaxed people.”

Another fast year flew by and right before New Year’s Eve, it’s time to set some lofty goals. Like, becoming a better person. Cutting down on indulgences. New York, New York, big city of dreams. We here at FIFTYEIGHT PRODUCTS always like to maintain a humble and down-to-earth attitude. But we can still dream, right? And try to work our very hardest to make those dreams reality. One thing that’s been on our mind for a long time, is taking our business to New York City – the Big Apple, where everything is larger than life and on an entirely different level. So when the opportunity arose to make it happen, our two founders Max and Marc were ready to hop on a plane and make dreams come true.

We have invested lots of passion and attention to detail into the making of our TASSEN and TALENT products. So much so, that we thought they were ready to make a big move into the whole wide world this year. After taking the leap across the pond for our first tradeshow in the U.S. in July in Atlanta (read the story Tassen go USA), we felt ready to follow our long-time dream of taking a shot at being “Big in Japan”.

Porcelain by Fiftyeight Products is now available in 60 countries across the globe, also in places such as South Korea as of recent. But until now, our presence in the United States has been somewhat lackluster. That was about to change. TASSEN are coming to America!
